Basic Rules
Board and Setup:
- 8×8 board, play only on dark squares (32 squares)
- Each player starts with 12 pieces
- Black pieces start on the top three rows
- White pieces start on the bottom three rows
- Black moves first
Moving Pieces:
- Regular pieces (men) move diagonally forward one square
- Kings move diagonally one square in any direction
- Can only move to empty dark squares
Capturing:
- Captures are mandatory - if you can capture, you must
- Jump diagonally over an opponent's piece to an empty square
- The captured piece is removed from the board
- Multiple captures in one turn are possible
- Regular men capture forward only (by default)
- Kings can capture in any diagonal direction
King Promotion:
- A regular piece becomes a king when it reaches the opposite end of the board
- Promotion happens immediately after the move
- The turn ends after promotion
Winning the Game:
- Win by capturing all opponent's pieces
- Win if opponent cannot make a legal move
Draw Conditions:
- Threefold repetition of the same position
- 80 half-moves without a capture (configurable in settings)
Configurable Rules
Force Longest Capture: If multiple capture sequences are available, you must choose the longest one (enabled by default).
Men Can Capture Backward: Allow regular pieces to capture backward (enabled by default).
No Capture Halfmove Limit: Number of half-moves without capture before declaring a draw (default: 80).
